Well, since we had nothing going on we thought we would drive 25 minutes up the road and race in York, PA. Alot of people have told me how cool the track was so I was excited. I heard the track would get rough, but that didn't bother me too much. Alot of guys showed up to race. I think their were around 35 guys or so in the 450 pro class which was going to be the premier class for the day. I also rode the Open Twin, Open A, and Sportsman Pro classes as well so I knew it was going to be a busy day as each class had a bunch of riders in them. The track was really rough and slick at first, partially due to the fact it was raining as we were riding. After a while, the rain dapered off and we got the track into descent shape. I won 3 of my heat races by good margains in the 450 Pro, Sportsman Pro, and the Open Twin. I also got a 2nd in the Open A on my 450 to Weidman on his 750. I also was awarded some extra cash for setting fast heat race time in the premier 450 pro class which was cool.
The first race of the day was the most important as there was a descent purse up for grabs. After setting fast time, I was feeling good. I dragged raced Weidman into turn one and off turn two. He got me down the straight away a little bit and I shuffled into 2nd. I ran a couple good laps early on and held my own, but couldn't find any extra speed to pass him. With about 3 to go, I looked behind me and I didn't see anybody so I knew we could try one last push to close the gap but I just couldn't get it done. I finished 2nd.
I knew something was going weird with the motorcycle the more laps we had in that final and sure enough as I lined up for the Open A final, it shut off and wouldn't start back up. I quickly ran back and grabbed my XR 750. They started without me and I blasted out of the pits onto the race track wide open completely to the locks. Downshifted twice and grabbed a handful. I came from half a track behind in 16th to 6th in the short 8 laps we had in that race, but I was black flagged because I was switched cycles. The track was getting really dangerous and I thought they did a horrible job in putting us out on an unsafe race track. I came back a couple races later and comfortably won the Open Twin main event. They called the event with a few races left due to it getting dark and having no lights on the track. I didn't get to race my last final, the Sportsman Pro final which I would of had to start on row 3 anyway because I was switching bikes because my 450 wasn't running. I comfortably won my heat in that class, but finished 2nd because they paid off by heat race times. It was lame because I knew we coulda won one more but I was just happy to have the day over. So overall, it wasn't a bad day. I felt pretty good all day, but it seems like we had the gremlin in our motor these past couple weeks that has been giving us fits. We are making huge leaps forward every race and I can't wait to get back on the race track and continue to improve.
